As an attorney, T.J. draws his strength from a diverse legal background which includes extensive civil and criminal work, as well as jury trial experience on cases ranging from medical malpractice and wrongful death to felony criminal cases. Additionally, he has conducted more than 100 arbitrations and alternative dispute resolution proceedings, and has developed a deep understanding for transactional legal issues through extensive real estate and mortgage backed financing practice.
Before joining Starr & Associates, P.C., T.J. worked with Steven B. Muslin Ltd. In Chicago, IL as a litigation attorney, and more recently (since 2000) as a sole practitioner in Littleton, Colorado, were he aided clients with Civil and Criminal matters, specializing in Contract and Real Estate issues.
While in Littleton, T.J. also served as outside council to Eurasian Minerals Inc., an international, publicly traded natural resources company. As a legal consultant, he assisted Eurasian Minerals Inc. with a variety of matters including negotiating contracts, and drafting joint venture contracts, confidentiality agreements, purchase agreements, and service agreements between U.S. and Canada based major international natural resource companies. During this time T.J. also opened a branch office for Automated Lending – an affiliate of Megastar Financial Inc. – in the Denver area where he gained experience with mortgage banking, lending, and real estate related debt issues.
T.J. is admitted to practice before the following United States District Courts: District of Colorado; Northern, Southern, Central and Western Districts of Illinois. He is also admitted in the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit. T.J. has been a member of both the Colorado and Illinios State Bars (presently inactive in IL).
T.J. has negotiated and litigated catastrophic injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death cases at both State and Federal levels on behalf of injured individuals and the estates of deceased individuals. Several of these cases were settled in excess of one million dollars.
T.J. has tried numerous jury trials, including: four medical malpractice cases (one lasting one month in duration), two wrongful death cases and a product liability action. Litigated criminal cases in six different states. He has given oral argument before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and authored numerous briefs in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the Appellate Court for the State of Illinois.
